The Fobia crew know how to throw a video premier. I seriously couldn't believe the number of people that showed up at First Ave for the show. There were lines around both sides of the block. It was pretty ingenious, really. Mix the video with D4 and Atmosphere. You could have had either one of those bands and they would have drawn a large crowd. What I though was the coolest part about the event was that the crowd knew it was a video premier. Even non-skaters were into it. First there was a high ollie contest right on the dance floor. It started a little rough but I'd be nervous too trying to ollie a bar in front of god knows how many people. But the crowd never let up. They'd cheer & clap for more.
Then the curtain dropped and the place lit up. It was like a skateboarding carnival in there. You couldn't turn around without seeing someone you knew... but at the same time if you were looking for someone you'd never find them. Anyway, the curtain dropped and the video begins. I was a little concerned because each of the skaters edited their own parts in the video but they all did an awesome job. I talked to Seth (McCallum) a few weeks before the show and asked him what music he was skating to. When he told me Paul Simon I was a little confused. But it couldn't have been a better choice. Clint's music was cool as hell too. Olu, Nesser, Clint, they all had seriously kick ass sections. Plus a spot in Mexico, locals from Minnesota, lots of great skating.
So after the video the bands went on and the place got hotter and hotter. I felt like I lost 10 pounds that night. But the bands were great. And after the show Fobia threw a party down at City Billiards. It was a good time had by all. But the question remains, how the fuck are they going to top that?
